This is among the larger zones formed by six regions, namely; Mbeya, Iringa, Katavi, Njombe, Songwe and Rukwa. Its main offices are in Mbeya along Uzunguni Street. The main economic activity in this zone is agriculture due to the rich fertile soil structure. Most staple foods are grown in this zone. There is also a mix  of other activities such as trade, manufacturing, forestry and mining. OSHA strives to increase awareness on safety and health among different stakeholders in this zone, perform inspections and offer technical advise on how to improve OHS among people across the southern highland regions.
